Induction Project

The very first project that I had for this year was to design two 3D versions of my initials and decorate them with different, pictures, quotes and illustration to describe who I am, and what kind of artist I want to be.

Since the age of 14 I have wanted to become an illustrator, which is why the majority of my letters are covered in illustrations.

Along with these illustrations are pics of my family, friends, pets and also some from the internet of my favourite artists' work, e.g Arthur Rackham, Roger Dean and Anne Stokes.

The main illustration on this piece is the multi-coloured dragon, which wraps round the 'K'. I both drew and painted it in the style of Roger Dean since I love the way his work reaches into your imagination, which is something that I try to create with my own work and want to develop.

My main project was to create a Concertina Sketchbook which represented my past, present, and future. This had to combine the four specialist subject areas, 3D, Vis Comm, Fine Art and Fashion/ Textiles.

On one side of my sketchbook I showed my past, living in the suburban town of Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, including a pic of my house with Sutton Park in the background. Whereas the other side shows my future and dreams with a cottage by the sea in Lyme Regis along with both my dream jobs, one being a novelist and another being an illustrator.

For the textiles part of this project I practiced the techniques, screen printing, hand embroidery, machine embroidery and machine stitching, on a piece of calico. I enjoyed creating this piece.

The CAD part of this project involved creating our own business cards. In groups of four we took different pictures of ourselves and parts of our bodies and facial features, then created a collage of them on Photoshop. I'm pleased with how this turned out since I like how the purple illuminated goggles draw you to the face.

The drawing side of our induction was to create an A0 Photorealistic self-Portrait which we did in the style of the artist Chuck Close. (See above)
At the end of this project we then had our first exhibition in the college's designated exhibition space, in the old canteen area, where both family, friends and the public were allowed to come in and have a look around at our intensive 3 weeks-worth of art. (See below)
