One of the opportunities I was given on this course was to work with an outside organisation called 'Leaps and Bounds' to produce a professional piece of artwork for an exhibition, in only ten weeks. We spent six weeks discussing our topic which was 'Who Am I?' with two professional artists called Peter Tinkler and Aftab Rahman, and then the last four producing our final piece.

'In the dark red mist, an enslaved dragon, tormented by her own personal demons, yearns to be free from the chains of the past, wanting to break free and fly towards the future.'
My piece is called 'The Denial' since I have never had much confidence and therefore I have often doubted myself. The Denial is also based on SPD (Semantic Pragmatic Disorder) which it is a condition I was diagnosed with when I was four and held me back in my education, hence the chains. The chains, and demons, also come from my experience during secondary school which was a difficult time for me. The lack of confidence is shown in the way the dragon looks to the side covering it eyes. But there is hope in this picture. Due to the dragons dark surroundings, her brilliant mane and wings and fiery tail are the first things you notice. Also, if you were to look closer at this piece you would see a small break in the chains, meaning the dragon is starting to break free.

Here I am at the 'Who Am I?' Exhibition 22nd January 2014, standing next to 'The Denial'. Taken by my dad, Peter Davis. |
